A Lesson From the Trail

3/99 Clifton Gorge

"The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness;"

Ps 29:8

Day Hike

I went to Clifton Gorge today.  It is so nice to know that you have the whole day off and don't have to be anywhere until that night.  The day was destined to be interesting from the start.  Within 100 yards of the trailhead I picked up a bag of dope.  At first I thought it was trash.  There were two guys behind me and I didn't stop to look at it.  I just stuffed it in my pocket and kept walking.  I later looked at it and gave it a good sniff.  Good smellin' stuff!  I didn't want to leave it there for someone else to find so I turned it in to the park manager. [I think it's important for the park management to know what is going on their park.  They said it is a frequent occurrence and that they find all kinds of drugs and paraphernalia.]

I had lunch at the small dam below Clifton Gorge.  Mac and cheese over the trusty Trangia.  It's a nice day but I'm ready for spring.  The hike really hurt me.  I was bow legged for a few days afterward.  I worry that I've gotten soft this winter.
