4/00 Glenn Helen Reserve "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." Ps 37:23 Day Hike I decided to come to Glenn Helen in the middle of the week when the visitor's center is open and I can finally get a map of the area. The trails are many and not marked. I lucked out and got a map. It turns out that all those trails that run all over the place (that I thought were caused by a lack of marking the designated trails) are actually designated trails. There are so many trails here! There are some beautiful water falls here on one of the side trails. As I was walking along I could hear what sounded like rain falling all around me. The sun was shining so I thought it may be something dropping from the trees as the trees are in full bloom and dropping all kinds of stuff this time of year. After a while longer I took a good look at the ground. It turns out it was millions of tiny grasshoppers that were newly hatched! They were all about 1/4" and hoppin' all over. I walked for about 1/4 of mile with the little hoppers everywhere. A hatch of biblical proportions! I was amazed at the sheer number of them. I wondered what percentage of them would live and what percentage would die. Amazing! God is awesome! I finished the loop and was very pleased with the hike. It's just as pretty here as it is at Clifton gorge. There is a two mile connector trail that leads to the north part of Clifton Gorge. As a whole they could make a great 18 mile round trip day hike. I was also pleased with me sandals as hiking shoes. My feet feel great! Total Miles:4 1/2-5 |
