A Lesson From the Trail

Food

"Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beast of the field play."

Job 40:20

"The Gang at the Top of a 12,500' pass.  Amazingly we all made it to the top after eating nothing but cooked foods, and we're even smiling!  Behold the power of cooking!"

Would anyone who DOES NOT like food please raise your hand.  Please click on your "back" button and leave this page.  OK, not that we got rid of the liars....haha!  Have you ever wondered how something as simple and nasty as macaroni and cheese can taste so good in the back country?  It's really amazing how much location can improve taste.

Let me start by saying that I am not a good wilderness cook.  I am the kind that when I sit down to make out my menu for a weekend trip I go blank.  I have been at both ends of the food extremes.  The two extremes being the gourmet chef on one end and the no cook minimalist on the other end.  I fall close to the middle in the spectrum.

When I decided to have a food page here I was at a loss.  I don't cook a lot of fancy stuff but I do have some good staples that I use nearly every time I head out.  They work for me but maybe not for many others.  I had an on-line recipe contest (Congrats Snow Nymph!) in an attempt to get some really good input.  I did not get the volume of input I was looking for but the things I did get back were of the highest quality.  I decided to not have so much of an instructional type of food section but just simply present resources and other's recipes.  I will be adding to this page constantly as I find new ideas and receive new recipes.  I will divide all the recipes into there categories and then have links to some great resources for food.
